An Organized Garage: Taking the Challenge

How much stuff does one person need? It’s a tricky question, because the line between a want and a need can often be pretty fuzzy.

But to a growing number of consumers, even asking the question in the first place has shed some light on the power of being organized and the perils of working amidst clutter.

There have even been parameters set on how many -- or, more aptly, how few -- possessions one needs to hang onto to get through life. The “100 Thing Challenge” , for example, is a blog set up by David Michael Bruno who will, by next month, have lived for one entire year with more or less 100 personal possessions.

Not surprisingly, while he was selling or giving away nearly everything else, Bruno held onto his hand tools. There are thousands of objects we can live without, but (and we’re happy to say this with confidence) tools don’t make the list.

In his bid to declutter, actor Leonardo DiCaprio decided he couldn’t quite make the 100 mark, but he is attempting to pare down to 150 things. Considering the sizable purchasing power and luxurious life of a mega-star, even that seems like a lofty goal. No word, for instance, on whether a massive yacht and crew is considered to be one “thing”.

To be fair, there is a huge difference between making organizational sense of your living space and extreme-decluttering. But the foundation principal -- that order is necessary for productivity, focus and clarity of mind -- is the same, whether you’re trying to radically deconstruct your life like Leonardo, or simply making your home shop a place where you can stay on task and get work done.

As mentioned in previous blog entries, our professional partners put this theory to action every day. At the race track and in specialty vehicle repair shops, automotive technicians are thriving on the efficiency afforded them by well organized Seattle Tool systems.

That’s why our service carts are designed to hold every tool you need to get the job done in one efficient swoop, saving you money with each task completed ahead of schedule. You don’t need to make time consuming visits back to the bench to collect wayward wrenches anymore. Our unique foam encased tools were created to streamline every job. Each component is snug in its home, waiting to for its call to duty.

Will anyone mistake you for Leonardo DiCaprio in greasy coveralls? Probably not. Yet, by embracing a slight paradigm shift in how you store your tools, your work space will look less like the digs of a mad genius and more like the home of a man of action.
